Extra Gas cans ?

Gentlmen,

        "Safety First"

Why would anyone need to carry a five gallon can of extra fuel on the
outside of their Speeder ?  And before you answer that, "Why does anyone
need to bring extra fuel ?"  

I have an MT14 w/ an Onan engine (20 HP) and I can go all day on a little
more than a half tank.  Do other Speeders have such poor mileage they need
the extra gas ?  Or is it a "Just in case" paranoia.  

Since I do like to be prepared, I do bring a small 3/4 gallon plastic gas
can inside my Speeder.  Just enough to get me to 'snywhere' so I can fix a
leaking hose, for instance.  I don't travel alone so I'm sure I won't be
stranded.

What's your opinion.  Should everyone bring an extra five gallons of fuel
for a 50 - 100 - 150 mile run ?  Perhaps there should be a restriction of
the extra fuel carried for a short run.
