	The reason to carry extra gas is when long mileage days present
the need.  On a recent excursion in Idaho we ran 188 miles in one
day.  My Onan gets about 30 miles to the gallon.  With the four &
one half gallon tank, plus one two-gallon plastic spare inside the
car, gave me a half gallon margin.  Yes I could have bought gas
along the way but I didn't know that starting out.  
	If my mileage is going to be less than 130 for the day, I don't
carry spare gas.  You're right, safety first, carry just enough
spare gas and no more.
