Re: M-9's are cute....
The University's Bookstore is right across the sidewalk from my office, so
I just popped over there. There is a "dry cleaning pad" for about $2.50.
In high school we called them "pounce pads" and they were filled with
ground up gum eraser. You rubbed the mechanical drawings with them to
clean the drawing when finished.
The bookstore also had a "salt shaker" container of "pounce" and I just
purchased it. It does not look or smell like the gum eraser, but I'll try
it to see what it does.
To use the pad, rub it on the inside of the belt. The belt will squeal
but will "clutch" very nicely and will also run the car with less tension.
I (optimistically) think I am wearing the belt inside surface less, as
this stuff is "rolling" between the belt and the pulley surfaces.
How often you need to apply it, depends on the use. Some runs I need to
get down there every time there's a pause in the run and rub the stuff on,
especially on a new belt.
There was an article on this in the SETOFF years ago. Dick Ray?
