Re: [speeders] Rear Markers for motorcar & the CRI&P
May The CRI&P Rest in peace!!! It was my favorite Railroad out side of the
Pennsy! The Rock was the mid westerners equivalent of the Lehigh Valley. It's
motive power roster and paint schemes was anything but dull. It was a
railroad that fought for it's independance as one of the only two railroads
that initially did not join the National Railroad Passenger Corporation =
AMTRAK. I can still see in my mind going to Joliet Ill & seeing the harryman
style coaches with "Fox Trucks" sitting accross Rock Main waiting for
commuter service. And let's not forget the Alco Century 415 center cab
(actually off center) locomotives or the E units in freight service out of
Blue Island.
May The Rock Live For ever!!!! OK , Pop Quiz. What was the other railroad
that did not initially join Amtrak? I have a photo of a three unit consist
of a Blue Rock GP38 & two GE U33B in marron & yellow taken in Oklahoma about
1979 or 1980. Then center GE was having trouble "Loading" which was sadly a
condition of the Rock in general.
