--- Begin Message --- The following is an excerpt from a letter GNRR owner Wilds Pierce sent to
the BRSR volunteers.

Now for some good news, this week we entered into an agreement with the
Georgia Department of Transportation whereby they agree to fund some
additional work to rehab the line between McCaysville and Whitepath, plus
some work on the Mineral Bluff branch line. The scope of the work will
include the replacement of 3,000 railroad crossties, furnishing and
installing ballast, and surfacing and tamping approximately 6.8 miles of
track. Most of this work will be done just north of Whitepath; however some
of the rehab work will be done on the Murphy Branch to get it operational.
As part of the Murphy Line rehab, we will repair the bridge over the Toccoa
River. Included in this D.O.T. project are funds to rebuild all of the road
crossings between Blue Ridge and McCaysville, Including installing signals,
lights, gates and bells at the Mountain Street crossing, which is just north
of the Blue Ridge Depot. Last, but by no means least, we plan to extend the
house track further north so that next year we can get the entire train,
including our new open-air car on the house track.

Let me also give you an update on the status of the line between Etowah and
Copperhill, Tennessee. Earlier this month, Glenn Springs Holdings, Inc.
through the Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association, provided $1.6 million
to purchase this line from CSX Transportation. This purchase was sponsored
by a coalition made up of Polk County, City of Etowah, McMinn County, plus
other interested parties. Whereas the Tennessee Overhill Heritage
Association is still looking at all of its options for operating this
segment of the line, they have already contacted us about the possibility of
having the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway run excursions over this line. It is
too early to tell what will happen, however there is a possibility that we
could work something out with them for next year. As things develop, we will
keep you informed.
